An eternal cycle - the rebirth of Nespresso capsules
Hello Guys,
I hope you are well, and you had an amazing summer. Vacations are over, and I am ready for all the upcoming projects that I will show you here on Cameonistas!
As you’ve already seen, many times here on Cameonistas, Nespresso is a brand that I really like and truly appreciate all of their projects. This time, I am so happy that I can be part of their new campaign “ Second life”.
Have you ever thought about why Nespresso capsules are made of aluminum? The answer is simple: Aluminum is the only material that preserves the quality and aroma of coffee and protects it effectively from light, oxygen and moisture. What is also equally important: Aluminum is infinitely recyclable and can be reused in very different forms, for example for new capsules, utilitarian objects such as bicycle frames or windows or design objects like the Caran d'Ache ballpoint pen. The Nespresso Coffee capsules thus benefit from a new (second) life!
Nespresso and Caran d'Ache share values that connect them, such as innovation, quality and durability. That's why they collaborate for the second time to create a timeless design ballpoint pen in limited edition, made from Nespresso recycled aluminum capsules. The color of this ballpoint pen is a corresponding dark green to the Nespresso Master Origin India capsule, which allows to honor one of the most appreciated in the Nespresso range. This new ballpoint pen is part of the project "Second Life" launched by Nespresso in 2016. The aim is to encourage the recycling of capsules by showing how the aluminum capsules collected and recycled can benefit from a new - or second - life!
First and foremost: Nespresso capsules can not be revalued only if they are collected and returned by the consumers. But there is nothing's easier :
- With the Recycling @ Home service, home collection is convenient and free with Swiss Post
- The return in Nespresso shop or at the partners like Manor or Fust
- The deposit in a container for aluminum capsules in public collection points for household waste. In total, there are more than 2,700 points of collection in Switzerland. And thanks to the service Recycling @ Home convenience, no more need for you to leave the house, just drop the bag of Nespresso recycling in the milk box. It is necessary just thinking about getting the tongue out of the milk box, so that the postman sees the bag and picks it up when he delivers mail in the morning. Recycling bags are available for free at Nespresso.
All capsules collected are transported to the Nespresso recycling plant of Moudon in the canton of Vaud. The aluminum is then separated from the coffee grounds. Since 1991, Nespresso has invested several million Swiss Francs for developing the process of recycling , implement the collection points, build a suitable production plant and optimize it constantly.
Then, the aluminum is melted then sold to the industry in the form of big blocks of secondary aluminum. It allows to make new objects, such as bicycle frames or windows for example. Nespresso can use some of it to produce new capsules. And finally, it is used to make design objects, such as for example the elegant Caran d'Ache 849 ballpoint pen, a Swiss design classic.
The goal of this campaign brings me in mind all of these daily moments of recycling that for sure everyone has! As Nespresso recycles the capsules, so do I , also, use my empty glass bottles as the coolest vase for my flowers!
It is super easy it is to recycle. So how do you give a second life to used products?
